Feature Story

’You will endure’

Christine Quagan cried at church on Sunday. The first tears came was while she was singing "Holy holy", the opening hymn of the final Latin Tridentine Mass at the Holy Trinity (German) Church, her parish since 1990. And she cried again, she said, watching the Benediction from the choir loft, the dizzying scent of incense heavy in the air and the glory of the organ reverberating through the church. "Realizing," she explained later, red-eyed, "that this beautiful place is being taken away from our Lord. It’s just bad."
