The Croft School plans to file for bankruptcy as the private school system continues to unravel from a financial crisis that affected its South End, Jamaica Plain and Providence campuses, WBUR reported.
According to WBUR, the school's board told families in a Sunday, June 1, email that attempts to sell the Providence and Jamaica Plain campuses had failed. Parents at the South End campus raised money to open a new school at the same location this fall, and a spokesperson said South End students were expected to finish the school year June 12 as planned.
NBC10 Boston reported that founder Scott Given issued an apology through his attorneys, acknowledging that he misled families, staff and investors about the school's finances. Given said he did not take money for personal enrichment.
The parent-led nonprofit South End Village Academy said its focus is now on preserving the school community and opening a new nonprofit school.
